Veteran Tuition Assistance
You may not have all of these documents when applying to Northwood University; however, it is important that you forward the applicable documents to your Northwood Certifying Official to complete your record for proper benefit enrollment and reduced tuition.
This is document (member 4 copy) is a notice of discharge and/or dates served on active-duty or full-time activation.
Note: Spouse or Dependents in the Adult Degree Program taking advantage of military and prior service tuition reduction must provide a valid marriage license or proof of relationship along with the DD-214 of the service member.
This document is obtained by the service member from the local command/unit to confirm eligibility and entitlement for educational assistance under the G.I. Bill® Chapter 1606 and an application must be submitted at the VA website requesting Chapter 1606.
This is the formal application for education benefits that the service member must complete in order to receive a Certificate of Eligibility for education benefits under Chapters 30, 33, 35, 1606. Applicants must go to the VA website to submit the application online (Spouse and Dependent fill out form 22-5490).
This is a document/letter that the service member receives from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) that indicates eligibility under a specific Chapter of benefits. For Chapter 33 Post-9/11 benefits, the document also indicates the payment tier entitlement determined by the VA (100% or less). Changes in schools, educational goals, or programs of study need to be communicated to the VA. The form 1995 notifies the VA of the intended program of study and new parent institution. Members must complete the form through the VA website and provide a copy to (Spouse and Dependent fill out form 22-5495).
Voc Rehab authorizes the university to submit for payment of tuition and books at 100%. Students under Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation are assigned to a counselor through the nearest VA facility and entered in the Tungsten System upon approval. The Authorization to Bill is written for a specific course of study. Students must provide a letter of acceptance from the school along with a degree plan to their counselor, other items may be required.
Formal transcripts of military training are required for a free review of applicable academic credit based on the program of study.

Military Branch Tuition Assistance
All soldiers, including Army Reserve and Army National Guard, are eligible for TA for up to $250 per credit hour with a $4,000 cap per fiscal year.
ArmyIgniteEd allows soldiers on active duty to request up-front Tuition Assistance (TA) online, anytime for Northwood University courses. (Please note that TA has to be requested through ArmyIgniteEd).
You must first register with ArmyIgnitED if you are an active-duty soldier and plan to use Army tuition assistance (TA) to pay for school.

Army National Guard Soldiers, are eligible for TA for up to $250 per credit hour with a $4,000 cap per fiscal year. To use Federal Tuition Assistance, enroll through the ArmyIgnitEd portal.

Members of the Army National Guard can request an official transcript through the Joint Services Transcript website.
Coast Guard tuition assistance (TA) is offered to uniformed personnel who are on active duty (including Reservists on Active Duty Operational Support (ADOS) or Extended Active Duty (EAD) contracts. The Coast Guard is now offering 100% tuition assistance not to exceed $250 per credit hour and $4,500 per fiscal year.
Visit your Education Office to discuss your degree plan. The Education Office will assist you with using your Tuition Assistance. You will need to provide the Coast Guard with a copy of your education plan. Submit TA application in MyCG Ed up to 90 days prior to the course start date. All TA applications must be command approved by the ESO 14 days prior to the course start date.
Your TA request will be electronically approved. The Coast Guard will not submit your approved TA voucher to the University. Once you have your approved, signed TA voucher, email the document to your academic advisor.

Navy tuition assistance (TA) is offered to active duty sailors and selected Reservists on active duty. Additionally, TA is capped at eighteen (18) semester hours per fiscal year, not to exceed $250 per semester hour.
Requesting tuition assistance (TA) can be accomplished by discussing your education goals with a Navy College Counselor, accessible through your MyNavy Education portal. You will be required to complete virtual training through MyNavy Education. You will need a copy of your education plan to submit to Navy College.
Once TA is electronically approved through MyNavy Education, email the approved and signed voucher to your academic advisor.

Marine Corps tuition assistance (TA) is offered to active-duty Marines up to $250 per credit hour for a total of $4,500 per fiscal year.
Requesting Tuition Assistance can be accomplished by discussing your education goals with your Education Office to ensure that all prerequisite requirements are met, and that a copy of your degree plan and education goals are in place.
You will also need to complete the following courses, through Joint Knowledge Online.
Submit the certificates of completion from both courses to MFR Education, and request access to the WebTA Portal. Next you will upload a copy of your degree program to your WebTA Portal.
Once TA is approved through the WebTA Portal, email the signed voucher to your academic advisor.

Northwood University is proud to be a partner institution of the CCAF GEM Program. Air Force tuition assistance (TA) is offered to active-duty Airmen and Reserves on extended active duty. TA is paid up to $250 per credit hour for a total of $4,500 per fiscal year.
Active-duty Airman who are interested in tuition assistance provided by The Air Force can obtain tuition assistance by logging on to the Air Force Virtual Education Center (AFVEC).

Michigan National Guard State Tuition Assistance Program (MINGSTAP)
The Michigan National Guard State Tuition Assistance Program (MINGSTAP) provides tuition assistance to members of the Michigan National Guard who are attending any public or private college, university, vocational school, technical school or trade school located in Michigan.
In order to use MINGSTAP you must use your Federal Tuition benefits prior to applying for this benefit. To apply for MINGSTAP, enroll through the MINGSTAP website.
